Before you start to write:


  • What is the objective of the content?

  • What’s it for?

  • Who is the audience or customer?

  • What is your USP (unique selling point) or what single benefit do you need to get across?

  • Are you identifying your audiences’ needs and requirements?



Reviewing your content:


  • Does the piece reflect the brief?

  • Does the headline grab the reader’s attention and invite them to read on?

  • Is this piece of content relevant to your target audience/persona?

  • Does this piece address at least one of the target audiences’ problems?

  • Have you used short sentences and paragraphs and broken up paragraphs with subheadings?

  • Is any offer clear and concise?

  • Is there a sense of urgency for any offer?

  • Have you clearly stated the unique selling point?

  • Have you avoiding using a lot of industry jargon?

  • Is the content conversational? Are you addressing the reader as “you”?

  • Is the piece free of typos and grammatical errors?

  • Is the writing fairly casual and avoids cliches?

  • Have you read through the copy and deleted unnecessary sentences/thoughts?

  • Have you printed it out and read through the copy to check flow and readability?

  • Has someone else read through the copy to check flow and readability?
